CARE-TBI Frequently Asked Questions

This list has 2 working addresses.
1.) care-tbi@listserv.tbinet.org - List Address - To send messages to the List.
2.) listserv@listserv.tbinet.org - Listserv Address - To send Commands to change your personal list settings.

Q. If I have a problem or a question about the list, who should I ask?
A. The List Administrators, a.k.a. the List Owners through this special address

care-tbi-request@listserv.tbinet.org

Q. How do I get a PW for the Archives and Web Interface?
A. Send a message to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TBINET.ORG , in the body of the message type: PW ADD xxxxxx (where xxxxx is the pw you want) Listserv will send you a confirmation message back that you MUST reply to as instructed in that message. When this is completed properly, Listserv will send you another message telling you your PW was registered and you can now access the archives and Web Interface. This PW is called the "List" PW and is different from the Bio ID and PW.

Q. How do I access the Bio Page and what User Name and PW do I use?
A. The Bio page takes a separate User Name and Password than that of the "List" password. This was given to you in your original "Welcome" letter that was emailed to you. Since this is private info and this web page is public, you will have to ask a list owner at: care-tbi-request@listserv.tbinet.org

Q. I'm not getting any list mail and suspect the list isn't working, what should I do?
A. Send a message to: LISTSERV@LISTSERV.TBINET.ORG, in the body of the message type:  THANKS    If the list is working you will get a reply of:  You're Welcome. This tells you the list is working and you are able to receive email. If you do not get a reply in a reasonable amount of time, your ISP may be having trouble sending or receiving your mail. It could also mean the list isn't working but I will know that and will be working on it.

Q. I'm going away on vacation and I want to turn my list mail off before I go because I don't want my mail box filling up, what do I do?
A. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type: SET CARE-TBI NOMAIL in the body of the message.

Q. What do I do to turn my mail back on when I get home?
A. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type: SET CARE-TBI MAIL in the body of the message.

Q. While I'm gone I will have the use of a computer and the Internet where I am staying, is there anyway I can read the list mail or post to the list from there?
A. Yes. You can do this with the Web Interface, (see the Info section above) as long as you have a web browser, remember your email address (Your list ID) and your password. If you don't have a PW, get one before you leave.

Q. I want to leave the list permanently, or maybe a month or more, what do I do?
A. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type: SIGNOFF CARE-TBI in the body of the message. You can signup again anytime.

Q. I know someone that wants on this list, what do I tell them?
A. Have them use the special form at: http://tbinet.org/sub.htm

Or, have them send a message to the Listserv address.
In the body of the message have them type:

SUB CARE-TBI firstname lastname

Q. I get too much mail and can't sort it all out, Help!
A. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type: SET CARE-TBI DIGEST in the body of the message. This will send you 1 message per day after midnight with ALL the previous days messages included in it. To return to regular mail, Type: SET CARE-TBI NODIGEST

Special Note: If your mail program is MIME compliant, you may want to try: SET CARE-TBI MIME DIGEST This can make your Digest much easier to read, manipulate and reply to the messages. MIME is a separate command and can be turned off with NOMIME if your mail program doesn't handle MIME Digests well.

If your ISP loses a lot of your mail, this may help. The only problem is if they lose this one you lost the entire days mail.

Q. I seem to be missing a lot of messages from the list, what's wrong?
A. Your ISP has a restriction on the amount of mail it will hold for you and is rejecting it. You must pick your mail up more often.

Q. I sent a message to the list and it was rejected because it was too big?
A. The list is setup to rejected any message over 500 lines of text. This means you quoted a very large message (even an entire Digest) when you replied. You sent a very large message (probably a document from another source) or you have attached a file to your message.

Q. I have WebTV and all my replies are rejected.
A. WebTV automatically quotes any message you REPLY to. When it does this it also inserts the previous message's headers which contains the list address. This causes a "Mail loop" which means the message will be posted to the list over and over. You must always start a new message rather than reply.

Q. When I get messages from the list it doesn't tell me who wrote the message or their address. How can I send a private message to them if I don't know their address?
A. Your mail program isn't compliant with Internet Mail standards. You will need to send the following command to the Listserv address:  SET CARE-TBI DUALHDR  this will place the headers in the body of the message.

Q. How do I send a private reply to someone from a message I received from the list, when I hit my reply button it gets addressed to the list?
A. When you are reading the original message and decide you want/need to reply privately, you hightlight the person's email address and select "Copy". Then reply to the message in the normal manner. However, before you send the message, you delete the list address in the "To:" field, place the cursor there and then select "Paste", that will paste the person's private email address in the To: field.

Q. I'm changing email addresses, how do I work this out with the list?
A. If you know your new address and your old account is still working. Just send the below command to LISTSERV *FROM* your old account:

change care-tbi <your-new- address>
Example: change care-tbi marydoe@somewhere.com

Then when you access your new address/account there will be a message from Listserv there asking you to confirm the new  address. As soon as you do, the change will be made.

If you can't do this, just contact the list owners via the care-tbi-request@listserv.tbinet.org address, be sure to include your old address as well as your new one.

Q. Is there anyway I can NOT have the list send me a copy of my own message?
A. Yes. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type:
SET CARE-TBI NOREPRO in the body of the message.

Q. I like NOT getting a copy of my own messages, but I want to be sure my messages get posted, is there a way to tell?
A. Yes. If you send: SET CARE-TBI NOREPRO ACK   Listserv will NOT send you a copy of your posts, but it will send you a short ACKnowledgement that your message was posted.

Q. I tried this ACK and NOREPRO setting and don't like them, how do I switch back?
A. SET CARE-TBI NOACK REPRO

Q. All my messages from this list in the Subject line contain [care], is there a way to get rid of that?
A. Yes. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type:
SET CARE-TBI FULL in the body of the message.

Q. My messages don't show that in the Subject line, but that would be nice to know those are from this list, how do I set that?
A. Send a message to the Listserv address. Type: SET CARE-TBI SUBJ in the body of the message.

Q. Well I've done it now, I played with all these settings and I forgot what I did and what I'm set at, is there an easy way to find out all my settings?
A. Yes. Just send: QUERY CARE-TBI This will send you a list of all your current settings.

Q. Is there a way I can get a list of these commands any time I want?
A. Yes, Just send: INFO REFCARD to the Listserv address. They are also included in the Welcome Letter.
