On December 20, 1990 Dusty was involved in a motor vehicle accident, he was 16 years old. He lived with the effects of Brain Injury for almost 8 years which eventually caused his passing on May 8th 1998.

Norm and Dee Pickering decided to place the memorials they had been receiving into a fund that will benefit caregivers as well as persons with a brain injury. They decided it would be best used to support Brain Injury related mailing lists/support groups such as the  CARE-TBI   mailing list for caregivers and the TBI-SURV mailing list for survivors, as well as others.

These funds will be used to keep these lists available to the subscribers for years to come.
